Bio
Recruited from Belmont in the local Geelong district, Doug Scale was a rangy defender who earned his opportunity at the highest level during the tenure of legendary coach Polly Farmer. Standing 185cm but lightly built, Scale provided defensive versatility and height in the back half, often tasked with curbing opposition forwards rather than generating drive. He featured sporadically across two seasons, playing four games in his debut year before adding another seven appearances in 1975. Despite breaking into the side during a successful campaign where the Cats reached a Preliminary Final, Scale struggled to cement a permanent spot in a settled, high-performing lineup and concluded his VFL career at the end of the season.
