Bio
A product of the rich football nursery in Colac, Edgar "Doy" Reed was a sharp-shooting forward who made a brief but productive cameo for Geelong in the first season of full competition following World War I. Recruited from local side Newtown—long a fertile breeding ground for Pivot talent—Reed was brought into the senior lineup midway through the 1919 season as the club looked to rebuild its forward structure. He immediately displayed an eye for the goals, booting seven majors in just four appearances, nearly averaging two goals a game at a time when low scores were the norm. Despite this potent strike rate and his obvious goal sense, Reed’s VFL career was confined to that single post-war winter before he drifted out of the league, eventually retiring to the coast at Barwon Heads.
