Bio
Drafted by the Kangaroos with pick 23 in the 2000 National Draft, Drew Petrie evolved from a raw utility into the cornerstone of the North Melbourne forward line for over a decade. While he was capable of playing in defence or pinch-hitting in the ruck, Petrie played his best football as a towering centre-half forward who relied on an immense work rate rather than blistering speed. His ability to push up the ground to present a target, take contested marks, and double back towards goal made him a difficult matchup for defenders, while his defensive pressure and tackling set the standard for his teammates.
A five-time leading goalkicker for the club, Petrie's career was defined by durability and loyalty, culminating in All-Australian selection in 2011. He was a key leader during the club's transitional years under Brad Scott, eventually becoming one of only a handful of players to reach the 300-game milestone in the royal blue and white stripes. Despite his standing at Arden Street, his time at the club ended abruptly in 2016 when North Melbourne made the controversial decision to delist him alongside three other club stalwarts in a bid to aggressively regenerate the list.
