Teams

Arriving at the Junction Oval as a prolific VFA full-forward, Dudley Probyn joined St Kilda from Prahran during the 1942 season after the Association suspended competition due to the Second World War. Already 29 years old upon his debut, he was brought in to bolster the Saints' attack and immediately demonstrated his scoring prowess, averaging two goals a game during his brief tenure. He managed 18 majors in just nine appearances, providing a reliable target inside 50 alongside Frank Penney during a disrupted era for the league. While his VFL career was limited to that single wartime season, Probyn remains a notable example of the established talent that crossed from the VFA to keep the senior competition afloat during the war years.
