Bio
Recruited from Alphington Amateurs, Duncan Wright was a rugged half-back flanker and ruck-rover known more for his uncompromising physical aggression than his technical skill. A late starter to the game who played with a fierce "take-no-prisoners" mindset, he became a controversial figure at Victoria Park whose time in the seniors was frequently interrupted by tribunal visits. After serving an eight-week suspension for striking Geelong’s Lord twins in 1963, Wright cemented a spot in the side the following year, playing in the Magpies' 1964 Grand Final loss to Melbourne. However, his VFL tenure was cut short after the 1965 Preliminary Final, where he knocked Essendon’s John Somerville unconscious behind play; the incident gained lasting infamy and led to his delisting before the 1966 season, after which he moved to the ACT to captain-coach Acton.
