Drafted by Fremantle with pick 49 in the 2009 National Draft, Dylan Roberton commenced his career in the west before seeking a return to Victoria for family reasons after three seasons. He arrived at St Kilda as a delisted free agent in 2013 and rapidly transformed into one of the league's most effective rebounding defenders. Known for his courage in the air and ability to set up play from half-back, Roberton peaked in 2017, earning a spot in the 40-man All-Australian squad and finishing second in the Trevor Barker Award.

His career trajectory was drastically altered the following season when he collapsed on field due to a heart irregularity. Despite a prolonged and determined effort to manage the condition and return to senior football, which included a brief comeback in 2020, Roberton was ultimately forced to retire in early 2021 on medical advice. He finished his career with 129 games, remembered fondly by Saints fans for his resilience and his influential role in the club's defensive structure during a rebuilding era.
