Bio
One of the foundation building blocks for Greater Western Sydney, Dylan Shiel joined the Giants as a 17-year-old access selection, foregoing the traditional draft process to become a key pillar of the club's inaugural squad. He rapidly developed into one of the competition's most explosive on-ballers, renowned for his ability to burst away from stoppages and break lines with raw speed. His tenure in Sydney saw him earn All-Australian honours in 2017 and play a crucial role in the Giants' deep finals runs, establishing himself as a premium clearance specialist amidst a star-studded engine room.
Seeking a return to Victoria, Shiel requested a trade to Essendon at the end of 2018, a high-profile move that cost the Bombers two first-round draft picks. While his initial impact at Tullamarine was significant, including a runner-up finish in the Crichton Medal in his debut season, his time in the red and black was characterized by a mix of elite ball-winning consistency and scrutiny regarding his disposal efficiency. As his career progressed, injuries and form fluctuations saw him transition from a prime mover to a veteran mentor fighting for selection, often tasked with adding experience and contested grunt to a regenerating midfield group.
