Bio
Selected by the Kangaroos with the sixth overall pick in the 2000 National Draft, Dylan Smith arrived at Arden Street with high expectations following a standout junior career with the Sandringham Dragons. Despite his pedigree as a polished midfielder, he struggled to break into North Melbourne's senior rotation consistently, managing just 11 games across three seasons before seeking greater opportunities elsewhere. He was traded to Fremantle ahead of the 2004 season in exchange for a third-round selection, hoping to reignite his career in the west, but found similar difficulties cementing a regular spot in the Dockers' lineup. Smith added just eight games to his tally over two years at Fremantle before being delisted at the end of 2005, ultimately unable to bridge the gap between his underage dominance and the demands of senior AFL football.
