Bio
Recruited from Old Xaverians, Edward "Jim" Williamson was a dashing centre half-back who entered the VFL with a strong reputation, having already represented Victoria at amateur level. A high-leaping defender known for his awkward, difficult-to-pass checking style, Williamson was notable for maintaining his amateur status during his time at St Kilda, playing purely for the love of the game during the financially difficult Depression era. After two seasons at the Junction Oval, his football career was dictated by his professional life when his employer, the Commonwealth Bank, transferred him to a regional branch in Geelong. He subsequently crossed to the Pivotonians for the 1933 season but managed only two senior appearances before a severe knee injury forced him into premature retirement at just 24 years of age.
