Bio
Recruited from the Geelong Falcons with pick 43 in the 2007 National Draft, Easton Wood overcame a slow, injury-interrupted start to his career to become one of the league's premier intercept defenders. While hamstring issues limited his continuity in his early seasons, Wood's athleticism and bravery were undeniable, culminating in a breakout 2015 campaign where he won the Charles Sutton Medal and earned All-Australian honours. Known for his supreme vertical leap and willingness to back into packs with the flight of the ball, he became the linchpin of the Bulldogs' defence, frequently playing above his height to impact aerial contests.
Wood's legacy at the Western Bulldogs is defined by his accidental but inspirational leadership during the 2016 season. Following a season-ending injury to regular skipper Robert Murphy, Wood assumed the captaincy and steered the club to its historic drought-breaking premiership. He subsequently served as the club's permanent captain for two seasons before handing the reins to Marcus Bontempelli, allowing him to focus on his role as a senior mentor in the backline. Wood retired in 2021 as a revered one-club player, celebrated not just for his defensive prowess, but for his selfless leadership during the club's most successful era.
