Bio
Hailing from Tathra on the New South Wales south coast, Ed "Cheese" Barlow was a prototypically athletic modern utility who arrived at Sydney via the 2006 Rookie Draft after boarding at Scotch College. Standing 195cm with elite endurance—he famously held the Swans' 3km time trial record—Barlow possessed the physical attributes of a key position player but often operated as a tall wingman or running half-forward. Despite a promising debut in 2007 where he gathered 18 disposals, he often struggled to translate his training track dominance into consistent senior output, finding himself on the fringe of the starting 22 for much of his tenure in the Harbour City. After being delisted by Sydney following the 2010 season, Barlow was handed a lifeline by the Western Bulldogs as a rookie selection. He managed eight games in 2011, filling a gap as a forward-utility, before concluding his AFL career to pursue local football and eventually a career in sports psychology.
