Bio
Selected by Carlton with pick 3 in the 2005 Pre-Season Draft after being overlooked in the National ballot due to perceived fitness issues, Eddie Betts rapidly developed into a cult figure at Princes Park. Originally playing as a crumbing forward renowned for applying intense defensive pressure, he evolved into an elite goal scorer capable of converting opportunities from virtually any location inside the forward 50. After nine seasons with the Blues, he exercised his free agency rights to join Adelaide ahead of the 2014 season, a move that unlocked the most productive period of his career.
At Adelaide, Betts cemented his status as the premier small forward of the competition, earning three consecutive All-Australian selections and leading the club's goal kicking on four occasions. His mastery of the boundary line at the Adelaide Oval became so routine that a specific area of the ground was colloquially named "Eddie's Pocket." Following a list restructure at the Crows in 2019, he orchestrated a trade back to Carlton to conclude his playing days as a veteran mentor. He retired in 2021 as just the third Indigenous player to reach the 350-game milestone, leaving a legacy defined as much by his vocal stance against racism and community leadership as his exceptional skill set.
