Bio
Recruited from Bacchus Marsh in the country zone, Eddie Shea was the younger brother of Carlton star and future Hawthorn coach Keith Shea. Arriving at Glenferrie Oval in 1936, he joined a Hawthorn side that was struggling near the bottom of the ladder, eventually claiming the wooden spoon in his debut season. Shea was primarily utilized in defensive roles, failing to register a goal across his dozen senior appearances in the VFL. While he could not replicate the longevity or Brownlow-polling form of his older brother, he remained a key figure in his local district, eventually returning to country football after his brief two-season stint in the big league concluded in 1937.
