Bio
Arriving at Melbourne during the VFA era after a stint with North Melbourne, Eddie Sholl became a defensive pillar for the club during the VFL's inaugural years. A disciplined fullback, he was renowned for his ability to shut down the competition's most dangerous forwards, a trait recognised when he was appointed club captain in 1899 and selected to represent Victoria. His finest hour arrived during the 1900 Grand Final, where he played a pivotal role in Melbourne's upset premiership victory by keeping Fitzroy champion Gerald Brosnan goalless for the entire match. Sholl retired as a premiership hero, remembered as one of the league's first great key defenders.
