Bio
Recruited from Boroondara, Edgar Kneen established himself as a dangerous half-forward for Fitzroy during the club’s golden era, most notably booting two goals in the 1904 Grand Final victory over Carlton. After three seasons and a premiership with the Maroons, Kneen spent a year out of the league before becoming a pivotal recruit for the newly admitted University side in 1908. Unlike the raw amateurs that populated much of the Students' list, Kneen brought hardened VFL experience and composure to the forward line, providing a reliable avenue to goal and essential on-field leadership. He captained the club in 1910 and remained a key figure at East Melbourne until his retirement, revered as a seasoned campaigner who helped guide the "Shop" through its challenging formative years in the major competition.
