Bio
Eric Gardner was a long-kicking wingman and forward who arrived at Melbourne from Melbourne Grammar, joining his older brother Corrie in the senior lineup. He broke into the side during the 1900 season but suffered the misfortune of missing the club's shock premiership victory that year, ruled unfit for the Grand Final after featuring in the semi-final win over Essendon. A talented all-round athlete who also starred for Trinity College, Gardner played four seasons with the Redlegs before retiring at the end of 1903 to pursue an electrical engineering career overseas. His life was tragically cut short in 1905 when he died in Sweden at just 23 years of age.
