Bio
Recruited through the Brisbane Lions Academy, Eric Hipwood was secured in the first round of the 2015 National Draft after the club matched a bid for the Sunshine Coast local. Arriving during a lean period for the club, the athletic tall forward became a cornerstone of the Lions' rebuild under Chris Fagan, utilising his rare combination of 200cm height and genuine speed to trouble opposition defenders. His playstyle is defined by his capacity to work high up the ground, using his agility to double back towards goal and launch scores from his dangerous left boot.
Hipwood evolved into a key structural component of Brisbane's forward line, often functioning as a high-work-rate foil for his fellow talls during the team's sustained run of finals appearances. His career path included overcoming a ruptured ACL sustained in 2021, an injury that interrupted his momentum but saw him return to play a significant role in the club's subsequent premiership success. While his consistency has occasionally drawn scrutiny, his defensive pressure and ability to stretch backlines have made him a permanent fixture in the senior side. Now a premiership player and a veteran on the cusp of his 200th game, Hipwood remains an integral part of the Lions' offensive setup.
