Bio
A Tasmanian recruit who took a winding road to the VFL, Eric Poole originally hailed from Sassafras and cut his teeth with the Burnie Football Club. He crossed Bass Strait to trial with Collingwood but was unable to crack their senior lineup, forcing him to ply his trade in the VFA with Camberwell and later Yarraville. His impressive form for the latter in 1928 caught the eye of South Melbourne recruiters, who handed him a long-awaited debut in the 1929 season. Poole managed four senior appearances for the Southerners but struggled to cement a permanent spot in the side, eventually dropping out of the team and returning to Yarraville to complete the year.
