Bio
Recruited from the Illawarras club in the VMFL, Eric Sprague earned his opportunity at Essendon during the final year of the First World War, a period when VFL lists were often in a state of flux. Standing at 175cm, he was stationed as a full forward for the Same Olds but struggled to make an impact on the scoreboard, failing to register a major across his three senior appearances in the 1918 season. Unable to cement a spot in the side, Sprague was delisted and eventually surfaced at Melbourne, where he played in the seconds and pre-season matches during the early 1920s without breaking into the senior lineup. He finished his football journey in the VFA, turning out for Prahran after his brief stint at the top level concluded.
