Bio
Born in the Victorian goldfields town of Timor, Ern Aitchison was recruited from local club East Hawthorn and broke into the senior lineup late in the 1931 season. Standing at 184cm, he was a particularly tall half-back flanker for the era, offering significant size in defence for the struggling Mayblooms. He made his debut in Round 14 against St Kilda but lost his spot after just two appearances, unable to cement a permanent place in the senior side. Despite his brief taste of top-level football, Aitchison remained a dominant figure in the club's reserves, where he and his younger brother Jack—who would eventually play a solitary senior game in 1935—were consistent standouts for several years without further reward from the selectors.
