Bio
Recruited from VFA club Northcote, Ern Elder was a tall defender who arrived at Glenferrie Oval during the tumultuous early years of the Second World War. A solid full-back standing 187cm, he was often tasked with holding down the key defensive post in a struggling Hawthorn side that ultimately claimed the wooden spoon in his final season. Elder managed 12 senior appearances over two years, regularly battling against overwhelming inside-50 entries in a besieged backline, before his brief League career concluded at the end of the 1941 season.
