Bio
A Western Australian prodigy who became an iconic leader at Princes Park, Ern Henfry's career was defined by immediate impact and elite skill. Originally a teenage star for Perth in the WAFL, he briefly appeared for the Blues in 1944 while stationed in Melbourne with the RAAF, but a bitter post-war clearance dispute forced him to sit out the entire 1946 season. When he finally joined Carlton permanently in 1947, the club took the extraordinary step of appointing him captain immediately; he repaid the faith by winning the best and fairest and leading the team to a famous premiership in his first full season. A tall, classy centreman known for his evasiveness and precise distribution, Henfry captained the Blues for his entire six-year tenure and even skippered Victoria before knee injuries curtailed his VFL career, eventually seeing him return west to coach Perth to a flag.
