Bio
Recruited from Williamstown Juniors, Ernie Barber wasted little time making his mark at Lake Oval. Arriving at South Melbourne for the 1918 season, the opportunistic forward proved immediately effective in front of goal, booting 20 majors in his debut year to finish among the club's leading goalkickers. His rapid ascent culminated in the ultimate success that very same season when, in just his 13th VFL appearance, he lined up in the forward pocket for the Grand Final against Collingwood. Barber kicked a crucial goal in the famous five-point victory, securing his place in Bloods history as a premiership player before his brief league career concluded at the end of 1919.
