Bio
A Geelong-born recruit who arrived at St Kilda during the club’s disastrous 1899 campaign, Ernie Glenister was thrown into the fray midway through a season defined by heavy thrashings and a historic lack of success. Debuting in Round 10 as a mature-age inclusion, he played out the remainder of the year in a side that finished winless with a percentage of just 28.7, featuring in seven consecutive defeats where the Saints were often decimated by opposition forwards. While his VFL tenure was a brief, goal-less cameo in a wooden spoon team, Glenister eventually established a far more successful sporting legacy on the bowling green; he became a distinguished competitor for the Armadale Bowling Club and claimed the Victorian Bowling Association’s Champion of Champions title in 1940 at the age of 66.
