Bio
A product of the St Kilda District, Ernie Loveless was a rugged defender who split his career between the Saints and the Hawks during the interwar period. He established himself as a physical presence in the back pocket and full-back, famously delivering a bump that shook Collingwood legend Gordon Coventry during a tight contest. After a four-year stint with St Kilda, Loveless spent the 1930 season as captain-coach of Wangaratta in the Ovens & Murray League, eventually returning to the Junction Oval for one final season before crossing to Hawthorn in 1933. His time at Glenferrie Oval proved personally successful; he anchored the defence with distinction, winning the club's Best and Fairest in 1934 and serving as vice-captain in his final two years.
