Stats
Bio
Arriving at Princes Park from the Hume Weir club in the Ovens and Murray Football League, Ernie McAlpine was a pint-sized rover and forward who played two separate stints for the Blues. Standing just 165cm and weighing 64kg, he was one of the lightest players in the competition, relying on his pace and crumbing instincts to find space around goal. After showing promise with nine games in his debut 1924 season, he fell out of the senior rotation for the entirety of 1925 before fighting his way back into the lineup the following year. Despite a respectable return of 11 goals from his 14 career appearances, McAlpine was unable to secure a long-term position in the Carlton 22, departing the VFL scene after a final run of games in mid-1926.
