Bio
A seasoned campaigner well before Richmond entered the VFL, Ernie McDonald was a dual premiership player for the club during its VFA era, tasting success in 1902 and 1905. A versatile flanker capable of operating at either end of the ground, he etched his name in history as a member of the Tigers' inaugural VFL side that faced Melbourne in Round 1, 1908. Despite his experience, McDonald featured in just the opening four rounds of that maiden season before losing his place in the senior lineup. Unable to force his way back into the side, he departed Punt Road the following year to continue his career in the VFA with Footscray.
