Bio
A late-blooming recruit from the Mallee district of Tiega, Ernie Nunn was a sturdy "policeman-footballer" who balanced his duties at Russell Street with a brief VFL career. He first established himself at Footscray as a centre half-forward, where he was known for his strong marking hands and ability to win the ball, even if his finishing was sometimes wayward. After being delisted by the Bulldogs, Nunn found a second home at Collingwood in 1932, where the Magpies reinvented him as a defender who played with plenty of "ginger" and dash. His versatility also saw him rotate through the ruck, but his progress was halted by a severe knee injury sustained while captaining the police football team in a midweek competition. Unable to shake the issue, he left the league after just one season at Victoria Park to return to the country.
