Recruited from Grosvenor, Ernie Sellars announced himself with one of the most explosive debuts in VFL history, booting a then-record seven goals in his first match against University. A consistent and dangerous full-forward, he became the focal point of the attack and topped St Kilda's goalkicking tally in every season he played at the Junction Oval. His 1913 campaign was particularly significant, as his scoring prowess spearheaded the Saints' charge toward their historic first Grand Final appearance. Rather than continuing his VFL dominance, Sellars made a surprise move West at the peak of his powers, joining East Perth in the WAFL where he maintained his reputation as a premier goal-kicker and represented Western Australia.
