Bio
Ethan Phillips reached the AFL via a persistent mature-age pathway, having established himself as a premier key defender in the VFL with Port Melbourne and Box Hill. After claiming the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal in 2022 and training with multiple clubs in search of an opportunity, he was signed by Hawthorn during the 2024 Pre-Season Supplemental Selection to cover a long-term injury to James Blanck. Known for his intercept marking and ability to read the flight of the ball, Phillips made his debut in Round 10 against Port Adelaide, recording his only senior appearance for the club. Despite his consistent performances at state league level, he could not break into the Hawks' developing defence permanently and was delisted at the end of the 2024 season.
