Bio
Recruited by the Western Bulldogs with the high expectations accompanying pick 4 in the 2003 National Draft, Farren Ray entered the league as a promising midfield talent known for his elite endurance. However, he struggled to consistently justify his top-five selection during his time at the Whitten Oval, often finding himself on the fringe of the senior side or played out of position. Seeking a fresh start and greater opportunity, Ray requested a trade to St Kilda at the end of 2008, a move that revitalised his career under the disciplined coaching of Ross Lyon.
At St Kilda, Ray found his niche as a hard-running winger and disciplined run-with player, utilising his aerobic capacity to cover the ground and shut down opposition playmakers. He became a reliable fixture in the Saints' lineup during their dominant era, playing in both the 2009 and 2010 Grand Final series. While rarely the star of the show, his professionalism and work rate allowed him to compile a significant career as a serviceable role player. After being delisted by the Saints during a list rebuild, he was offered a rookie lifeline by North Melbourne in 2016, adding depth for one final season before retiring with over 200 games to his name.
