Frank Bult was a pioneering interstate recruit for Footscray during the club's formative years in the VFL. Originally from East Sydney in New South Wales, he ventured south to the Western Oval in 1927, a rare pathway for a player from the rugby-dominated state during that era. Bult broke into the senior side immediately, making his debut in the opening round against Essendon and establishing himself as a regular fixture in the lineup. Though not a major scoreboard threat with just four career goals, he provided a steady presence as a utility player across his two seasons at the top level. He departed the VFL scene following the 1928 season, leaving his mark as one of the earliest New South Welshmen to represent the Tricolours.
