Recruited from Mortlake after a prolific apprenticeship in regional football, Frank Driscoll was a key forward who produced one of the most blistering starts to a career in Essendon history. He burst onto the VFL scene in the opening round of 1957, booting four goals on debut and backing it up with another bag of four the following week to instantly captivate the Windy Hill faithful. Despite appearing to be a long-term solution in attack with ten goals in his first three matches, Driscoll's time at the top level was surprisingly fleeting, and he managed just a handful of appearances in 1958 before his VFL tenure concluded. He ultimately returned to the country leagues to cement a legacy as a grassroots icon, serving as a decorated captain-coach and dominant goalkicker for both Navarre and Moonambel for more than a decade.
