Bio
Recruited from the Federal League, Frank Giampaolo arrived at Melbourne with promise, quickly establishing his credentials by winning the club's Under 19s Best and Fairest award in 1972. A diminutive rover known for his ball-winning ability, he broke into the senior side the following season, but his time at the top level was severely hampered by persistent knee injuries that restricted him to just 53 games over five years. Despite being a consistent performer when fit—evidenced by a runner-up finish in the Reserves Best and Fairest during his final campaign—he was unable to overcome his physical setbacks to secure a long-term spot in the senior lineup. Giampaolo departed the Demons at the end of 1977 and immediately showcased his true quality in the VFA, winning the Best and Fairest in his debut season with Sandringham before eventually moving into country football coaching.
