Recruited from Kyneton in central Victoria, Frank Hanrahan was a versatile utility who joined St Kilda during the massive list overhaul of the 1956 season. Although originally courted by Fitzroy, he was secured by the Saints after a personal visit from club officials, debuting as part of coach Allan Killigrew's famous "new look" squad that featured a record number of recruits. Hanrahan operated primarily on the wing and half-back flank, where he showed glimpses of class but struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior 22 over his three years at the Junction Oval. He eventually returned to regional football, enjoying a distinguished career in the Ovens & Murray League with Wodonga and serving as a non-playing coach, while maintaining a lifelong connection to St Kilda as a dedicated past player.
