Bio
Recruited from Port Melbourne District, Francis "Codger" Harris began his VFL journey with St Kilda in 1903. A versatile operator, he initially made his name as a defender before developing into a capable follower during his second stint in the league. His career was marked by significant interruptions, including a year out of the game in 1906 before he crossed to Melbourne—then known as the Fuchsias—for the 1907 season. While recognised as a "champion" on contemporary trading cards, Harris brought a hard edge to the contest, most notably receiving a heavy suspension for striking in 1909 that effectively sidelined him for twelve months. He remained a regular fixture in the Melbourne lineup upon his return until 1912, eventually departing the league to join Essendon Association in the VFA.
