Recruited from the nearby township of Little River, Frank Johnson was a diminutive rover and forward pocket who briefly graced Corio Oval during the mid-1930s. Standing just 173cm, he joined the Cats in 1936 and managed to break into the senior lineup, but found himself competing for a spot in an increasingly formidable side. His career coincided with a golden era for the club, and while he was on the list during the 1937 premiership season, the sheer depth of talent in Reg Hickey’s squad saw him squeezed out of the senior 18. Johnson managed just eight games and a solitary goal across two seasons, ultimately serving as a depth player who couldn't quite cement a place in a premiership-winning machine.
