Bio
Recruited during the tumultuous years of the Second World War, Frank "Lofty" Kirwin arrived at Victoria Park via a fragmented pathway. He was originally on the books at South Melbourne but transferred to Collingwood midway through 1942, only to find the Magpies' reserves competition in recess due to wartime restrictions. Forced to maintain his match fitness with local side Abbotsford, the 180cm utility eventually earned his senior call-up in 1943. His VFL career was brief, comprising just three games in a season defined by unstable team lists and player unavailability, serving as one of the many players who filled a vital gap for the club during the war years before returning to local football.
