Bio
Born in Kent, England, Frank Maple was one of the rare overseas-born players to feature in the VFL during the 1920s, having emigrated to Australia as a toddler. Recruited from the local Kew Football Club, he earned his call-up to Hawthorn at the start of the 1926 season as the struggling club attempted to find its footing in only its second year of league competition. Maple played as a forward and managed to boot a goal during his brief tenure, but he found it difficult to cement a spot in the senior side. After just two appearances for the "Mayblooms," he was omitted and did not feature at the top level again, eventually returning to Kew in the sub-district competition to continue his footballing journey away from the spotlight.
