Bio
Recruited from Marcellin College, Frank Marchesani burst onto the VFL scene in 1980, using his blistering speed and silky skills on the wing to win the Recruit of the Year award in his debut season with Fitzroy. His career is defined by the controversial transfer saga that followed, as he demanded a trade to Carlton after just one year, eventually crossing to Princes Park in a high-profile swap for premiership player Peter Francis. While the move promised silverware, Marchesani’s time at the Blues was cruelly derailed by persistent injuries and a debilitating illness, restricting him to sporadic appearances over five seasons. Despite playing 16 games during Carlton’s 1982 premiership campaign, he missed a place in the Grand Final side, ultimately retiring in his mid-20s as a talented wingman whose elite potential was cut short by medical misfortune.
