Bio
Recruited from Xavier College, Francis "Frank" McCooey broke into the Melbourne side as a lightweight teenager midway through the 1906 season. At just 17 years of age and weighing only 67kg, he faced a steep learning curve against hardened senior bodies, making his debut in a Round 10 clash with Essendon. His VFL career was ultimately a brief cameo, consisting of four consecutive matches during a winless month for the club before he fell out of the senior lineup. While his time at the elite level was fleeting, McCooey later answered a greater call, enlisting in 1915 to serve overseas during the First World War.
