Recruited from local feeder club Carlton District, Frank Mercovich was a productive forward who maintained a strike rate of better than a goal per game during his brief VFL career. He debuted for the Blues in 1918 and showed promise near the sticks, booting 11 goals in just 10 senior appearances, but struggled to hold a regular spot in a strong lineup. He was cleared to Melbourne for the 1921 season but failed to add to his senior game tally before retiring from the league. In a remarkable post-football pivot, Mercovich swapped his boots for blades to become one of the country's premier figure skaters, winning the Australian Amateur Championship in 1934 and 1936. He remained a prominent figure in winter sports as an administrator and through his marriage to Joyce Macbeth, a three-time professional world champion skater.
