Bio
Recruited from Pakenham, Frank O'Connor was a capable forward whose brief VFL career is defined by a singular, unfortunate twist of fate during the 1948 finals series. He broke into the Melbourne lineup in 1947 and quickly found his feet as a regular goal-kicker, playing a supporting role to the likes of Norm Smith and Jack Mueller. O'Connor lined up in the forward pocket during the famous drawn Grand Final against Essendon, but in a ruthless selection call, he was one of two players omitted for the Grand Final replay the following week. He consequently missed out on the premiership triumph and never played another senior game for the club, ending his tenure with 24 matches and the heartbreak of coming within days of a flag.
