Stats
Bio
Recruited from Ringwood in the Eastern Suburban competition, Frank Slater was a sturdy defender who typically lined up at centre half-back. While he found senior opportunities limited during his three seasons at Punt Road—managing just 19 appearances between 1953 and 1955—he became a key figure in the club's lower grades, notably anchoring the backline in the 1954 Reserves premiership side and winning the Reserves Best and Fairest that same year. After struggling to cement a permanent spot in the seniors, Slater departed the VFL to become a decorated captain-coach in country football. He forged a successful regional career, most famously captain-coaching Red Cliffs to a premiership in the Sunraysia league and winning the 1957 McLeod Medal as the competition's best and fairest player.
