Bio
Recruited from the Teachers Training College, Fred Brooks made a fleeting impact at VFL level with just two games for Carlton in 1931 before finding his true calling in the VFA. Unable to break into the Blues' lineup permanently, he transferred to Williamstown the following year and established himself as a durable and disciplined defender who missed just one game in six seasons. His leadership qualities quickly came to the fore as he assumed the role of captain-coach, guiding the Seagulls with distinction while winning the club's best and fairest award. Brooks reached the pinnacle of Association football in 1935 when he tied for the VFA Medal, a feat that ensured his induction into the Williamstown Hall of Fame and a legacy that far exceeded his brief stint at Princes Park.
