Bio
Recruited from Alice Springs powerhouse Pioneer, Fred Campbell was a talented small forward selected by Sydney with pick 40 in the 1997 National Draft—just three spots ahead of future club legend Adam Goodes. After breaking into the senior side for five games in 1999, the pull of the Northern Territory proved too strong, and he briefly returned home before St Kilda offered him a lifeline via the 2000 Pre-season Draft. Though he managed another seven games for the Saints and displayed flashes of natural skill and pace, Campbell struggled to settle in Melbourne and ultimately walked away from the AFL at just 20 years old to return permanently to the Central Australian Football League.
