Bio
A diminutive rover originally from Oakleigh, Fred Goding found his way to Punt Road via an unusual audition in the Melbourne reserves. After catching the eye of Richmond officials while playing against their own second-tier side, Goding was swiftly cleared to the Tigers midway through the 1928 season. He made an immediate impact as a crumbing small forward, booting nine goals in just nine senior appearances and holding his spot all the way to that year's Grand Final loss against Collingwood. Despite his rapid ascent from the reserves to the biggest stage in football, his VFL career was confined to that single season, and he subsequently returned to Oakleigh where he became a key figure in their 1930 and 1931 VFA premiership sides.
