Stats
Bio
Recruited from local side Fitzroy Methodists, Fred Heintz was a capable half-forward flanker who possessed a sharp eye for goal. He showed immediate promise at VFL level, averaging better than a goal a game during his three seasons at Brunswick Street, but found greater continuity after crossing to Oakleigh in the VFA in 1934. Heintz became a prolific scorer in the Association, booting 116 goals in 57 matches, and although the Maroons formally requested his return in 1937, he never played senior VFL football again. His career and life were tragically cut short by World War II; after enlisting in the AIF, Heintz was deployed to Ambon with the 2/21st Battalion "Gull Force" and was killed following the Japanese invasion in 1942.
