Bio
A ruckman recruited from Collingwood Juniors, Fred Hewitt endured a stop-start VFL career that bridged two foundation clubs. He first broke into the senior ranks with Carlton in 1905 but managed only two appearances for the Blues before spending the next two seasons out of the league. Hewitt earned a second chance with Melbourne midway through 1908, quickly cementing a spot in the Redlegs' side as a first-choice follower. He played out the remainder of his career at the MCG, providing steady service in the ruck for a struggling Melbourne outfit until his retirement from the VFL in 1910.
