Bio
Born in South Melbourne, Fred Linay was a local prospect given a late-season trial by St Kilda during their difficult wooden spoon campaign of 1911. Standing 174cm, he was deployed as a forward for the final two rounds of the year and showed immediate potential, booting a goal in his debut against Richmond and another the following week against his home district's side. Despite this efficient return in front of the sticks, he was not retained for the following season and his senior career concluded after just that solitary fortnight of football. Linay later found greater renown in the professional sporting arena as an athletics trainer, most notably conditioning world champion sprinter Austin Robertson Snr during the 1930s.
